Rise Above Imaging”s David Haueter presents photo printing data

The Photo Imaging CONNECT virtual conference, held May 4-6, brought together participants from around the world. More than 150 industry members from around the world signed up, with about one-third signing in at any one time.

“Our first virtual conference was very well attended and supported,” said Gary Pageau, editor of the Dead Pixels Society and conference organizer. “We learned a lot from our presenters and were pleased to bring everyone together, if only on screen. We look forward to hosting more of these in the near future.”

The next in-person Photo Imaging CONNECT conference is March 5-6, 2022, at the Horseshoe Bay Resort near Austin, Texas. This will, of course, be followed by the legendary Pro Imaging GOLF tournament, March 7-9.

Entrepreneur Matt Sweetwood led off the event with the motivational address, “Successful Business is All About You.” He was followed by a two-part presentation by David Haueter of Rise Above Research regarding “The U.S. Photo Print Market After COVID-19” and “The U.S. Photo Merchandise Market Trends and Opportunities.” Ed Lee of Rise Above Research described “The Role of Aspiring Photographers in the Future of Photography.”

On day two, the focus shifted to Western Europe and to video apps. Jeremy Wills of Futuresource Consulting presented “Photo Prints to the Rescue. The Revival of the Western European Photo Market” via a pre-recorded segment. Hans Hartman of Suite 48a presented  “Video creation apps: What is driving the market.” Hartman also hosted a “AI in Imaging” session, providing an overview of the areas where artificial intelligence is making the most impact in the imaging world. He was be joined by Brad Malcolm, co-founder and president, EyeQ, creator of Perfectly Clear, who outlined how the company is bringing AI to its photo enhancement portfolio.

The concluding day featured Don Franz, publisher of Photo Imaging News, who described market trends in Asia, including China, Japan, India and more. The event concluded with a presentation by Aaron Day, global partnership lead at Canva, who will showcase how personalization and graphic trends are driving business. He also announced the Canva Design Lab, which brings the functionality of Canva’s powerful graphics tools to in-store environments.
